Roughly 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Police say they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then found numerous other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests show the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; investigators are currently not cognizant of any harm in association with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the public for tips.
A senior representative stated the vandalism left him speechless and required to be addressed quickly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a assailant targeting residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
